Ok, here are some RPG battle systems that I like (Action RPGs are the best <3).

Saga Frontier - Classic turn based combat system with a unique twist in its skill combo/ skill learning system; gained stats instead of levels and fully recovered after combat except for LP.

Star Ocean 2 - Fun Fast action battle instances; cool spells effect (magic was unfortunately underpowered though); Active skills should have been changeable in combat.

Diablo 2 - Slaughteing seas of monsters with blood, gore, and loot flying out your nose; Shame gold was lost upon death even if stored (this made gold essentially worthless); Fast paced action, using enviorment for battle tactics. Random Loot (usually), random dungens (to an extent), random spawns (sort of), all of this randomness helps to keep the game from getting old (I really wish every RPG had all these randoms and random quests too).

Ragnarok online - Very customizable stat and skill builds in this game. Could make any character a brute or skill spammer and specialized in different ways with stat distribution at full contol or the players will. Healing is broken in this game (healers made better tanks than any heavy armor class); also an unlimited ammount of enemies would stack in a single move pannel so mobbing became a big issue.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion - Combat elements seemed pretty cool from stealth arrow shots to melee dancing enemies to death and a few nice buffs and damage spells here and there; Greatest flaws was leveling based on skills caused you to miss tons stat points on level ups and monsters got stronger faster than you did every level up, also spells were very limited by skill and mana requirements when crafted, and item crafting was a joke at best for how limited it was compared to spell crafting, also lack of variety in items (espically equipment) are some weak point as well. Fortunately if you own the PC version there are mods to fix almost all these issues, so when modded this game is quite fanactic.

X-Men Legends 2 - Fun combining different parties with a bit of stat variation and skill/buffs/items (though equipment slots were very limited) to make your party either super crappy or unstoppable.

Paper Mario: TTYD - Very simple combat system with timed attack/blocks for bonus damage/defense. Also badge points were wonderful it was like a stat that increased your number of equipment slots, shame it was limited to 99 bp and I would have liked even more badges.

Planetside - Honestly I really dont like FPS in general but as for this FPSRPGs (Not that there are many, only one i know of really) there is something about this game that captivated me. Huge 150vs150vs150 3 faction Battles, Strategy played on how you moved into enemy territory which order you took enemy bases and even timing or base captures, Stealing bases for exp, Killing people of the other faction for exp, running a group, Hacking consoles, healing friends and vehicles, driving like a mad man, Setting up stealth respawn terminals, Setting up Warp points into enemy bases, Sniping (infantry, aircraft, vehicles the whole sha-bang), planting mines and turrets, leveling up, gaining certification points, unlocking implant slots, putting together favorites on the equipment terminals, holding heavy armor infantry lines inside buildings, and air drops (I have yet to see another game meet many of these features all in one game). Biggest flaw was how exp was awarded entirely to the person who made the killing blow, Kill Stealinging was rampant and usually accidental.

I am sure there are more games I can't even think of right now but these were the highlights off the top of my head.
