I agree with this statement in some sense but not completely. This gen many publications tend to rate games more highly than they should be but from my experience this generally happens with main-stream and highly hyped games. I've actually found that a lot of gems (not a typo of "games" :P) from this gen tend to be in the 82-90 range on IGN for games that aren't hyped too highly. Mirror's Edge, Brutal Legend, Dead Space, etc. are some of my favourites this gen. In fact I've had better experiences with some games rated in this range than I have with quite a few rated over 90. In my mind Borderlands isn't being hyped much and has been pretty under the radar considering it's out tomorrow so this might just be one of those great games in that range joining those listed above. Here's hoping! Plus I'm in need of a new grind-fest. After 300 + hours in Oblivion and half a dozen playthroughs of Mass Effect I'm ready for some more grinding through Demon Souls, Dragon Age and this. :D
