Well yeah sure if you look at it like that no game would have any intensity or emotional impact, because if you view all game characters as purely fictional constructs then there isn't anything to humanise and feel emotion for. But seriously, do you really do that? Because that goes against human nature, most people form bonds with lots of non-human objects, like pets, cars, boats, tools, even controllers (a bit strange that one, but someone was mentioning it earlier in a different thread). The scene is intense because you emphasise with Madisons' situation, because you use a thing called imagination and perceived her character as real. I guess you don't read many fictional books either?
