I don't see where Nintendo is ripping off the consumer with User Generated Content anywhere here. Unless you believe Malstrom's right when he says that Wii Music alone marks the dawn of a new era of Nintendo bent on its own destruction. What's Nintendo going to do? Fire all their artists and stop making art so they can just make UGC-only games? Because the only person here asking Nintendo to fire any artists is Malstrom.

I don't think we were talking about them ripping off anyone. It was weather or not Nintendo was headed towards focusing their games primarily around User Generated Content. Now it sounds to me like Miyamoto and Iwata were the main culprits in the past. But it seems like Miyamoto is still talking about doing it.

So Nintendo has made 2 games where the focus is on UGC.  Wii Music, which sold a couple million and made a ton of money, but Miyamoto has said wasn't as successful as they'd hoped, and IF they pursue that direction again, they'll try to discover the disconnect and make it better.  And Flipnote Studio, which is ABSOLUTELY FREE.

Please explain how this means Nintendo is heading in a direction towards focusing on more and more UGC, and please explain how this will be at the expense of their other games.  Are we going to design our own Metroid?  Our own Zelda?  Wii Fit?  Mario?  Kirby?  I'm calling bullshit.  It's not gonna happen.  Nintendo made casual games and people went "Oh no they're gonna stop making hardcore games!" and that was bullshit, as Nintendo is making more hardcore games than they ever have before, and faster.  Now they made ONE SINGLE user-generated content game (and a small free downloadable art app), and you guys are going "Oh no they're gonna stop making content!"

Any time Nintendo tries anything new, a bunch of whiners claim they're gonna stop making traditional games.  Any time Nintendo makes a traditional game, a bunch of whiners claim they're gonna stop trying anything new.  Damned if you do, damned if you Nintendon't.
