I've had a couple of encounters with dogs while getting off the school bus, and because several of the people on the bus lied in my neighborhood, I wasn't the only one that had problems.
I do remember in my junior year that we got off the bus and some shitzuh was sitting on the porch of the house next to where a girl named Jennae lived. We didn't even see it until it popped up, jumped off and porch and started running a us. Jennae takes her jacket off and cracks it like a whip and whacks the dog while it's charging for her as if she were trained by the Belmonts.
Needless to say, the dog learned its lesson and left us alone.
