You know I'm thinking Blu-ray might be the physical format of choice for quite some time. Think about it. Some companies were working on 400-500 GB discs at the conception of the technology, with Sony saying the PS3 could support them through a firmware update. That's as much as high capacity laptop hard drive as of now. My PS3 currently has a 500 GB HD, I couldn't even imagine having that much space on a single disc.
But, my point is that I don't think in the future we're going to need a new disc format as Blu-ray can more than meet the need. And I'm not sure how much info a higher resolution of video will need, but since Blu-ray movies sometime don't use up all the space on a 25 GB disc, I think Blu-ray will be able to fit it. Actually, I'm not even sure we need to go to a higher resolution. I think anything higher would either not be as much of a difference, unless you had a 2000" TV, or it might make your eyes bleed.
