Yes they can. Sony and Microsoft lie or embellish all the time about position. Remember the time Sony tried to pass all of PSN as if it had more true PS3 members than Xbox Live? Thats embellishing.

PSN = PSP + PS3

PS3 + PSP (PSN) (Free) > X360 (XBL) (Pay). Simple maths. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Everyone with a PS3 or PSP and internet gets free access to PSN. Live has a ratio of about 2/3 subscribers.

It's a free service. It's not like you pay for it and don't bother to use it. You are not wasting your money.

What puzzles me is that PS3 fanbase is now dominated by EU (and Japan). Those figures are coming from their weakest market.

Is that because the EU figures for home are pathetic? Who knows.

Ultimately these figures are for people looking to advertise their stuff on PSN, these are the ones that will probably request a more detailed summary of these numbers.
