Although I did enjoy R2, I still preferred the experience of the first one. Technically R2 is so much better, but over the course of the whole game, it was evident that they had a tight schedule/deadline and things had to give. I honestly feel that an extra 6 months would have made so much of a difference.
Now that Insomniac have setup a new sub studio, I hope that they can dedicate a longer development time for R3. A 12 months development schedule along with a download R&C didn't help. I would like to see a proper 18-24 month turnaround for the 3rd game.
Technically, it's obvious that Insomniac are really good, but they just flung too much into R2 in such a short time that the polish simply wasn't there.
So for me the priorities are:
- Give the game a decent and realistic schedule (18-24 months)
- Enhance the game engine significantly, we don't need huge battlefields and millions of enemies, I would prefer smaller, better quality, more claustrophic.
- Dedicate most of the development time on making a brilliant SP experience first and foremost, this is what initially sells a game
- Make it more like R1 than R2 IMHO.
