I could be wrong, but I suspect Sega (and probably many other third party publishers) have moved into a more experimental phase and are looking to create the new IPs that will be important in the next generation. When you sit down and crunch the numbers, it really doesn’t make sense to try new IPs on the HD consoles in large numbers because the high development costs make it too risky ... Games like MadWorld and No More Heroes sold at a level (and were close to breaking even or profitability) where HD games have bankrupted studios.

If given enough tries studios like Platnium Games/Clover Studios will eventually create a game that is a multi-million selling franchise that can be milked for high profit; the reason for focusing these kinds of efforts on the Wii is if it takes 10 games to get to get to this point it makes more sense to be 50,000 to 100,000 units short of breaking even per title rather than 500,000 to 1,000,000 units short per title.
