I think you could say the same thing about TV support; HDTV, LED, OLED, and 3D TVs are all heavily supported by Sony.
They push forward different types of products/media because contrary to popular beliefs, they may co-exit for a very long time -- like Music CDs and digitally distributed music services.
They simply don't want to miss out on anything.
