My own top 5:
1. Metal Gear Solid 4-I had the highest of expectations for this game. I love the series to death. This game just didn't do it for me. Too many reasons to really get into it.
2. Resident Evil 5-It was just boring for me. I don't think it's necessarily the game's fault either, as I just feel the industry has advanced past what RE4 brought to the table. Gears of War took it and expanded, and RE5 basically is stuck in neutral. The game needs better enemy AI and better combat. If it's going to go shooter, that's cool, but don't half ass it. Go balls to the wall shooter.
3. Killzone 2-I feel this is my own damn fault for being a typical forum sheep this once. I listened to the hype. I took it in and I bought a game based on the suggestions of this forum entirely. It was the first and last time that will happen. The game just felt poorly constructed from a gameplay standpoint. I disliked the constant clutter of dust and blood drops that got in the way of my vision. I really disliked the overly large maps that required me to trek a thousand yards after every death to get back in the action. The game just wasn't for me, and I had the forum making me believe it was. I should have gotten Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3 or LittleBigPlanet instead.
4. Gears of War 2-Let me be clear. The campaign met and exceeded my wildest expectations. It was so good I could barely pull myself away from the controller. However, that broken multiplayer just threw me off. It was so bad I swore it off for COD and have never looked back since. Between the horrid matchmaking setup, to the throwing you out of a room post match, to the inability to get a match up for the first 5-10 minutes of waiting, I couldn't have been more disappointed. I'll still buy the next Gears of War for the superb campaign, but I'll be very aprehensive towards the online until I know it's better.
5. All Pro Football 2K8-So much potential this game had. A great developer was behind it. A who's who of football legends were featured. Yet everything that could have gone wrong did. No advancement over NFL 2K5 was made gameplay wise. Madden had left it in the dust by the time this game came out. Your teams could never be the fantasy teams you envisioned coming into purchasing the game. You were only allowed one gold player, which are the legendary HOF types. Do I really want to pick who I want between a HOF QB like Marino, RB like Simpson or WR like Rice? No dumbasses. I want all three! The presentation present under the ESPN license just wasn't there anymore. The team customizations weren't nearly enough. Overall, terrible attempt. I hope they give it another go one day after having listened to the complaints, and attempting to rectify all of them.
