I'm going to send him some of my time trials to watch.

oh, and remember you have to watch out for drafting.... if Wario slipped past you like that he either used a power up (mushroom/star whatever) or he drafted you.

Drafting is like the mario kart version of slipstream.
you can draft by staying in a straight line directly behind (and quite close but not touching) another racer for about 3-4 seconds.... so you may have been wheelie-ing away at the end of lap three, but Wario was behind you for long enough to get the little extra boost.

So first of all, remember to keep loking behind you (more importantly for other people firing things at you, but also for drafters) if they can possibly draft from you then you can stop them by turning a corner or starting/cancelling a drift....Or when you are pulling a wheelie simply canceling it (pressing the b-trigger) will stop it, you can immediately wheelie again so you don't lose too much speed yourself.

So if you are pulling a wheelie, just cancel it to stop someone else drafting from you, because turning slows you down a lot when using a wheelie (this is very important.... once you learn the tracks well enough you should be able to aim and pull a wheelie in a split second so that you are wheeli-ing in a straight line to your next drifting point..... so the entire race (apart from being hit by items and such) is split between drifting and wheelie, with only the split second transitional period between.
