You have to give it to Stringer those are rather honest statements on Stringers part about the format wars. Any other Sony Exec would have sounded like a broken record. Further more they would blow so much smoke that it would make a forest fire seem like a fart in the wind. Hearing things like this is quite refreshing.
We have all know what he said to be true for quite some time. The formats are in stalemate. One is sneaking into the market through the back door. The other is coming in through the wallet. Since they are not competing in the same way its hard to draw a straight comparison.
I have actually come to expect comments like this from Stringer. He has never come off as a foaming at the mouth PS3 or BluRay supporter. I think he is sincere about not liking what they did before he arrived. Unfortunately for him its not like the investors would have let him scrub both products. So he has to watch helplessly as they have to go their coarse.
Placing the BluRay player in the PS3 was strategically the worst move possible. They turned a one front war into a two front war. They doubled their enemies in an attempt to defeat one enemy. Historically fighting a war on two fronts has rarely been considered a rousing success with few exceptions.
