Undoubtly it's a great game, but I am actually surprised to see that this is the first AAA (>= 90) metacritic score JRPG in this generation.
Yes. We have not had Final Fantasy yet, but RPG used to be Japanese forte.

*As there are so many additional contents on PS3 version, it should score higher, but there is no way that it will have 11 points increase.

Since I don't own 360, I haven't played any of 360 exclusive JRPGs, but I have played Demon's oul, Valkyria Chronicle, Tales of Vesperia, and White Knight Chronicle. Personally, Demon's Souls was my top JRPG until played ToV (PS3 version). But I won't call the Demon's Soul the JRPG GoTY nor the ToV. Because FFXIII is coming out this year in Japan. ;)
