I think all three consoles had a "silent" year. Sure every console had its exclusives but it was nothing spectacular that blew me away. I like(d) Uncharted 2, Halo ODST, Killzone 2, Forza 3 and Left 4 Dead 2. So 2 games on the PS3, 2 on the Xbox360 and one add-on for the Xbox360.
The biggest hits are / were / will be multiplat this year. Modern Warfare 2 (nuff said), Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, Beatles Rockband, Tekken 6, Assassins Creed 2 etc. If one of those titles would have been exclusive to any console, people would hype the shit out of it.
2010 will be a hell of year with tons of exclusives though.

Funny, with all the claims of how "UBER HYPED" Killzone 2 was, I can't believe now all of a sudden, all the consoles have been "silent". I actually disagree, I think Sony's games/PS3 itself have been quite the talk of the town since Feb 2009.

Nah you got it wrong Fanboys will NEVER be silent... NEVER! But compared to the past years, there was nothing new and mindblowing.
2006:
- Gears of War - awesome cover-system, awesome graphics back then
- Oblivion - a hell of a RPG for a next gen
2007:
- Halo 3 - best multiplayer experience on a console, even today
- Wii Fit - get a completly new audience into gaming
- Bioshock - a very intense FPS with a fresh setting
- Mass Effect - the next big RPG
- Uncharted - actually the first really good game exclusive on PS3
2008:
- Metal Gear Solid 4 - An awesome franchise / story coming to an end
- GTA IV - The first GTA for this gen
- Fable II - the big sequel and a big RPG
- Mario Kart Wii - nuff said
- LBP - create n share, we have never seen something like this on a console
2009:
- Killzone 2 - solid shooter, but nothing new
- Uncharted 2 - probably a great game, but it is nothing new in terms of gameplay
- Forza 3 - again probably a great game, but nothing really new
- Halo ODST - I am having fun with it, but it remains an add-on
- NSMB - Mario...
So I think in the years before, the games had a bigger impact on the industry.

What about warzone, it merges couple of modes together in a single session. I have never seen that feature anyway, in any video game.
