Well I have both and think they both have pros and cons. From a technical standpoint you are absolutely right and if that was the sole criteria everyone would own a PS3. But I think you need to place more emphasis on the power of marketing. Think of the marketing blitz of last year (LBP, Gears 2 etc.), the same thing will unfold this year and it will act as a catalyst to drive console sales. Think of the economic landscape, do you think people are sitting at home looking at console specs or doing a careful analysis of what to buy for a loved one? Frankly, I don't think many people even want to spend the cash to buy a console now and it will be marketing that convinces them to do so. Consumers want a deal and value and based on this the 360 appears to have the edge for the holiday season IMO. |
You say that consumes want a deal and value but then also argue that they won't check up specs. In times of caution in purchasing I think that is just about what they do - sure some will go by emotions and what is marketed strongly but most others will be careful on how to spend their hard earned cash and will check things, discuss and delve into the issue.
I think that what favours 360 in NA is the large amount of sales already out. I would consider getting a console like my friends' so that we could play MW online. The opposite works for PS3 in Europe and Japan (though Europe is quite close).
