Why would we hope that? I mean it's not like it will change my life or my gaming behavior...

It could be a big factor in how many JRPGs hit the PS3, and how fast.  Some of them being former 360 exclusives, some of them being new games announced by Japanese devs who see that the PS3 can move JRPGs. 

It could also be a factor in other genres, but probably not quite as much.
