long development time is always a reason to be attacked. Look at Alan Wake. There were hundreds of people denying the existence of this game untill 3 months ago.
I think Sony should have shipped the game this year. Who needs thousands of cars anyway?
Forza 3 has more than 400 cars. Let's say you want to test every car and it takes you 5 minutes / car to do so. This means you would spend about 34 hours just for the cars (of course only on ONE track. multiply this with 134 tracks to play everything possible)
Do you think there will be one guy doing this? And if so, do you think he will say "Hey, I wish I could do this with another 400 cars!" ?
IMO Sony should ship GT5 this holiday season, make it 400 cars as well, offer three DLC with 100 new cars and charge $5 for it. More Money for Sony, GT5 fans would get the game earlier and everything would be fine.

It's not all just for one person, it is so multiple people can play the game and find that one car they always wanted, or that one car they have. It is catering for many different opinions or tastes.

Of course having more and more cars is not a bad thing. But at the end of the day, they are running a business and they should think that way. Do you think 100 cars more or less will affect the sales in a significant way? I doubt there are a lot of people saying: "If they had 600 cars, I would get the game, but they just have 500, so I pass."
More than 400 cars should be enough to cover the market. Release another 100 cars and 20 tracks via DLC and make extra money and it is all good.
