At any rate, the reasons Saw is up to VI:
- The series has made insane amounts of money. No Saw movie has grossed below $100m worldwide. For a horror movie, that's fantastic
- Budgeting. The combined budget for all 6 saws is under what the 1st one grossed in theaters. Each Saw costs about $10m to make.
- A new Saw is made every year, since the breakout hit that was Saw 1.
I've watched every saw, sans V, and my fiancee has seen all 5. It's a good series. Unfortunately, since the first and second movies, they've gone more for a grotesque franchise, as opposed to Saw 1's phenomenal thriller/whodunit model. |

Probably demographics. They wanted Saw to become the premier horror franchise of this decade, and they feel that more grotesque violence will appease the people that watch it. Not a fan of this style (I prefer more thrilling horror elements unless the gore is part of something that isn't focused on being grotesque).
