Sony - MW2 PS3 version - View Post

Both CoD 4 and 5 were equal when it came to campaigns. The 360 had a slightly better graphics version but not noticeable.

It is the online part that really determines these games. CoD 4 and 5 both had much better online play on Xbox Live and I expect the same to be true of MW2. The reason is because on Xbox Live MS handles everything and it just works right in with MS's matchmaking system. On PSN Infinity Ward has to develop all that themselves and host any servers themselves.  And I am speaking from experience with both PS3 and 360 versions of MW and WaW.  The PS3 version was far laggier online and had more server/host disconnects.

So that would be the difference. If you have both consoles and value online play above all else, you should almost always get the 360 version, and I am willing to bet it will be the same with MW2 as well.

What is this nonsense you posted.  Servers?  They are both player hosted.  Matchmaking is identical of both systems.

What you posted is fabricated tripe.  No offence.

*facepalm* people who can't read and don't know what they are talking about really shouldn't comment.

Matchmaking systems run on servers.  MS hosts the matchmaking system for all games even 3rd party multiplatform games.  On PSN, Infinity Ward has to dedicate some of its own servers to do matchmaking for their PS3 games.  Yes once a match is found it is based truly on Peer 2 Peer networking, but the disconnects are still caused by both matchmaking server issues (still active to record stats of the game) or host disconnects (host of the P2P game session).

Now, in my own experience and that of every PS3 owning friend of mine that has CoD4/5, it is a very laggy and disconnect prone experience.

And finally as I said, this was as of 1 year ago for CoD4 on PSN and 4 months ago for CoD5 on PSN while 360 info is accurate up to this day since I play them a lot.  Maybe something has changed recently to improve the experience. Maybe since the PS3 just has such a small userbase compared to the 360 in the US, perhaps I am just in a "dead zone" where there isn't much activity so it is connecting me to people farther away with slower internet... You never know, but that again goes back to matchmaking systems on the PS3 version not working as well.
