So you feel this choice was their only option up to this point in order to remain price competitive? Good that is also what I had felt.

You feel the PS3 lifespan having been possibly shortened is better than it dying all-together and way too early? I also share this view, but I don't think it would have died. It just would have relaxed in sales to the previous generations' third place totals/rate.
