In my opinion the PSPgo is just a test to Sony. People spend the last few years complaining about the UMDs, the batery discharge time and so on. Why not see how a download only, simpler games, same multipurpose funcionalities will sell? How about testing how the reatailers will take the possibility of thios kind of aproach, selling only digital vouchers of the games instead of hard copies? (This one got quite a response...the retailers HATE it!) So, for what I think it is, Sony was quite successful with the PSPgo, a device to test the waters of the possibility of an all about Digital download machine.
PS- since Sony does keep the PSP-3000 on the table (wich is selling quite a lot, since the price cut - at least in Japan) it seens its a win win situation for Sony regarding it (they've got the test they wanted, and some sales too).
