Bayonetta, the titular character of Platinum Games’ and Sega’s next big action extravaganza, runs silky smooth and kicks ass six ways from Sunday – in all three planes of existence, nonetheless – but word on the street has it that she’s not running so smoothly on the Playstation 3.

During a recent demo event experienced in Japan’s Shinjuku Yodobashi, the major transit hub and political centre of the country, gamers got to take the PS3 version of Bayonetta for a little test-drive. Besides the comment that the game didn’t look so hot on big screens (leading us to speculate whether the game has any support for HD), one gamer commented that, “The PS3 version has consistent framerate issues. It’s just not as silky smooth as the 360 version.”

Which is odd given how other outlets have testified to the two versions’ similarity. It seems like these issues should be resolved by the time the game releases across North America and Europe in January 2010. As for being hammered out before the Bayonetta October-end release in Japan, the jury is out. Could this spur more gamers to check out the 360 version in place of the PS3 one (the port being handled by Sega)?
