Killzone 2 is among the biggest sellers on PS3, as is LBP, Uncharted 1 etc. In the last few days also i've seen repeated that Uncharted 1 flopped sales wise what bloody planet are these people living on?. Reading alot of the reviews for Uncharted 2 it was repeated ad-nauseam that this is finally the Sony exclusive that will sell well. Where's this nonsense coming from?. It seems that unless a Sony game has 6million+ sales it's a flop. |
Good post. As I noted earlier, the issue seems to be that because the 360 has a small number of core titles (actually, originally only 1, Halo) with Halo and Gears, that sell 5M plus, and because most FPS sell more on 360 (although often in line with the install base ration gap) it is deemed that PS3 exclusives must match Halo and Gears levels.
This is unlikey, particularly for FPS titles as in US 360 has a majority of FPS console players on it's platform already. However, rather than simply be evaluated on their own merits vs install base and visible buying demographics of PS3 owners, the insistance on comparison continues.
But remember, today there is a lot of 'casual' news and information sources, and they always skew to the competitive comparison and more attention grabbing view. To say that KZ2 sold well for a Playstation brand FPS (compared to other FPS on the Playstation over the years) just doesn't have the same ring as 'KZ2 sales disappoint' and comparing the sales to 360.
I'd note that last gen, the Xbox, with a fraction of the install base of the PS2, sold FPS titles better than the PS2. Consider what that tells you about the sales projections for a title like KZ2 vs Gears on PS3/360.
The interesting outlier is CoD4 - that sold like a beast on 360 and PS3, showing just how truly popular it became, that it was able to rise above more normal Playstation FPS levels. Particularly given that CoD3 on PS3 was a fairly shaky port and not that good to boot. Due to brand establishment WaW also sold well on PS3, so I guess with MW2 we'll see sales on PS3 that are again way different from other FPS titles on the platform (outside CoD brand).
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
