That's the risk they take. But they'll get a pretty decent idea. For example low sales and a very low attach rate shows the whole thing failed, low sales but a high attach rate for those that did sell tells them there is a viable market for DD, but it is too small right now or their pricing / features are wrong.
I suspect that, despite all the posts, at this point the Go in a sense can't fail. Enough people will buy it to give Sony an initial idea of acceptance, then they can drop the price and see if it starts broadening out. The profit on the Go must be good, because we know the PSP is profitable HW, and I don't think huge sums went into the Go development.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
