Just recently, I started getting into Rachet and Clank. Bought tools of destruction off amazon. Loved it. Then I downloaded R&C:QFB. Loved it. I gotta say, those have been my favorite platforming experiences right alongside Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie. Actually, R&C: ACIT is one of my most anticipated games of 2009.

Would I like Jak&Daxter just as much? I've never played any of the series before.

Even though people compare J&D with R&C they are very different platforming experiences. R&C is really a shooting platformer with an equal emphasis on both. In fact what really makes R&C stand out is the cool weaponry.

J&D, especially the first one, is more your classic platformer of old and the Crash Bandicoot influences are obvious to those who knew Crash when he was cool. Jak 2 and 3 got more into your expanded platforming with guns and lots more vehicular activity, but still is more platformer than shooter.

I think safe to say that even though opinions are divided over which is better nearly everyone who loves R&C, likes J&D and considers the games titles worth the price of admission. If you have a PS2 at your disposal then you are missing out by not playing with Jak, even now in the HD generation. You should also play the PS2 R&C games, they are superior to Tools of Distruction in every way other than graphics IMO; I liked Tools a lot BTW.

I have no opinion on the PSP spin offs of either franchise. Only to say PLEEEEAAASE don't make Jak 4 a PSP title.
