There is actually a strategy to increase your lottery winnings (though of course in the long run you will lose money).
Pick numbers that few others have. You'll win just as often (obviously) but when you do win it will be shared with fewer people. In particular, pick numbers with a pattern like 4,5,6,7,8,9 [people tend to not do this] or above 30 [a lot of people choose birthdays].

My parents play it, but I never will because you can't win. At least it's the UK lottery so some of the money goes to projects like the Olympics or in support of the arts.
