It will be nice to have an Olympic Games in my city. A lot of investment will be made in terms of transportation, new lodging, and new venues. As such, it will be a hell to live here for the next years as a lot of construction will be held around the city -- not close to where I live but definitely close to my work. Anyway, it will be all ready by the time the Games are to be held, so visitors will not be bothered. Crime rate is high in Rio but its distribution is uneven over the city, and touristic locations are much safer than the slums, which would be foolish to visit.
Chicago earlier elimination was a surprise. I know the city and I think it would be a great host to the games. Anyway, Rio won as the Olympic Games needed to be legitimated as a World event and thus they needed to go to different areas to the planet. Expect a following Winter Games in South America -- perhaps in Chile or Argentina -- and a Summer Games in Africa.
