Well there isn't what I would call "a lot" of players, but I don't really have any problem finding a good match during "normal" hours. Usually from 2am - 8am there is not much action, but the rest of the day there is a decent amount of players. Most of the remaining players are VERY VERY good, so I have fun even with just a few opponents. I only play deathmatch, but most players actually play CTF. Friday and Saturday, there is usually about 3000 players online. There are still a few servers that only play Face :)
