This game is on a handheld. Career mode is not necessary for this game on PSP. This game, as Kaz mentioned, was not created like other GT games. It's main focus was delivering great pick up and play racing which is the exact opposite of all of the other GT titles that currently exist. This is something that a lot of reviewers have forgotten.

The PSP has enough of the pick up and play racers..

"is on a handheld" is a cop-out.

GT was built on start with a rappy car and build it up and earn money to get the best = Career mode

and GT was always ment to be a GT game, not a pick-up-and-play arcade game.

Going by that logic, Need For Speed: SHIFT shouldn't have gotten more than 7 as NFS was known for its street and fast race driving, but now the game is no more like that and it's all about realistic racing and sim.

BUT...

Whether you were a big fan of the previous NFS games or not, you should review the game for what it is, not for what it was. And just like NFS: SHIFT, Gran Turismo for PSP is designed differently as its on a handheld system this time around, the game is not another numbered GT in the series or simply a sequel. If GT5 lacks Career mode, I would be the first to approve of any low raiting for the game because the number 5 in the title implies a sequel, whereas GT (PSP) ) is NOT meant to be another GT sequel -- Just like how NFS: SHIFT is not meant to be a sequel.
