In New Zealand even the police are routinely unarmed. We have heaps of guns though, almost all for hunting and a few for sport.
Nobody has guns for protection, theives don't usually use guns for holdups and we have very few deaths related to guns. It seems to work for us.
@disister. What type of bows do you have? I have a couple of recurve bows but it has been a while since I used them.
