4. They completely ruin the multiplayer experience when applicable.

Achievements are awesome! in singleplayer... I love to go through a game and complete everything, I always try to get 100% in every game I play (even before achievements).

However once online comes in, you have those people who are obsessive over achievements to the point of being ridiculous. I can't tell you how many games of Halo 3 or Gears I've played where the teams are negotiating "achievment" trading. You will have people run to a certain place to get the same gun every game and camp somewhere to get their kills. It really sucks for team games when one person really wants an achievement and sacrifices his team to do it.

If a game does have online achievements, they should NEVER have something like kill x_ amount of people with a single shot or use this weapon x times. Keep it simple and say win 5 matches in a row, win 100 matches, come in 1st place, stuff that won't hurt the experience.
