VG companies the big ones will stay (Square Enix, Capcom, Namco, Activision, EA, Ubisoft) for obvious reasons, but smaller ones are on the way out. Also it wasn't easily due to the economy, they were red for awhile most companies that are closed now. The economy only recently started effectiving games recently and that may because of other reasons.

 

Actually, thanks to digital distrubution models such as Steam,Gamersgate and Impulse as well as things like Xbox Live arcade and Wiiware we're seeing a lot of indie developers like 2DBoy flourish. Also, small publishers like Paradox Interactive are just chugging along nicely delivering quirky titles for PCs.
