I don't believe in casual gamers. You've paid a lot of money to have 3 consoles and that many games, so you've invested a lot of money in your hobby. And now you're even posting in forums about it. Sounds like you're a gaming enthusiast to me. As you download more free demos, your tastes might expand to other genres as well. It doesn't matter either way.

Don't let any self-proclaimed "hardcore" assholes tell you how to enjoy your games.

Also, if there ever was a casual genre, it would be the FPS genre. You point and shoot. It's always been the most accessible genre, from Duck Hunt to Doom. Anybody knows how to point and shoot. It's not a good thing or a bad thing. But anybody who calls shooters hardcore is obviously nuts.

There's definitely no such thing as a casual console though. I don't even know what that means.

Regarding my own gaming history:

You mentioned karaoke and sports games, so...

Rhythm-wise: I love karaoke games, and rhythm games in general. My favorites have been Karaoke Revolution Party, the Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents games for DS, the Guitar Hero series, Band Bros. for the DS, and this ridiculous game I got addicted to in Japanese arcades called Pop 'n' Music Adventure. It's in the DDR style, but you just tap these big buzzer-looking knobs, but there's like 9 of them and it's psychotically fast and crazy.

Sports-wise: I've never been too interested in regular sports games. My favorites have always been the really weird ones. I played a lot of Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel back on the NES, but my favorites were by far Super Spike V'Ball, Nintendo World Cup, and Super Dodge Ball. Technos was unstoppable back then, with those sports games and River City Ransom. I also played a lot of Base-Wars: Cybernetic Games, in which you play baseball with giant robots, and when you try to steal a base you fight to the death with swords and guns, and you use your winnings to upgrade your weapons and armor and speed.

Post-NES however, I was into Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey (both for the Genesis), and even Mega Man Soccer (I gotta be the only one). But the one I got really obsessed with was NBA Jam. Recently, I really loved Super Mario Strikers for the GameCube and now Mario Strikers: Charged for the Wii, because to me they are the spiritual successors to NBA Jam. They have that same arcade madness feel, where it's all about turbo, fouls, and ridiculous special moves.

But I don't really have favorite genres. My tastes are across the board. Some of my favorite games of all time (that come to mind immediately) are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, StarCraft, Tetris, Half-Life, Portal, Katamari Damacy, Zelda: Link's Awakening, Final Fantasy 6, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Bomberman 64, and a bunch of other crap.

I pretty much think 99% of games suck and I find myself scouring for hidden games in a sea of mediocrity... but I feel the same way about music and film and literature.
