So if both balls are travelling at roughly the same speed, the cricketer has less time to react.

But cricketer also gets a bounce to help him.

Yes the bounce takes pace off the ball. However, a full toss would not have that assistance to slow down the ball. Is it possible that the design of the ball has an impact? Baseballs have that kinda tennis ball design, but cricket has one seam going around the max circumference.
