I probably have the most retarded list of Final Fantasy game preference ever.
1) Final Fantasy VII - I played it for the first time in 2005, and it's by far my favorite FF game. I really like the way FFVII builds up, and although Aeris' death meant nothing to me since I had known about it for half a dozen years, the game still had a huge impact on me. Recently replayed it on my PSP and adored it once again. The materia system is so brilliant, and does the best job of making you feel like you're constantly accomplishing something (you're leveling something or someone up just about every other battle by the end of the game).
2) Final Fantasy IX - At times I felt like Square was trying to do too much with IX, but in all honesty I loved the game dearly.
3) Final Fantasy X - Some of the characters dragged X down for me, but for the most part it was absolutely epic. Great plot twist.
4) Final Fantasy III - Starting to get into the FF games I don't really like. Although there was a lot of level grinding in III, I felt it did a great job with character classes.
5) Final Fantasy VI - Call me crazy, but I don't like VI very much at all. At times it was great, and other times I just grew really bored with it. I've never played a game where I went back and forth between loving and loathing so much.
6) Final Fantasy VIII - For whatever reason the setting of VIII did absolutely nothing for me, and if I don't get drawn into the world, then I have no interest in the game.
