MGS4 had more fan service in it than any other game I've ever played, in my entire life. Unlike most games with fan service, MGS4 also pulled it off. I love MGS4 the first time I played it, it blew my mind away and after I played it I instantly called it my favorite game, ever.
However, with time the flaws in MGS4 start to sink in. I won't deny it, I hated replaying MGS4 after the first couple of times. The cutscenes are drawn out far too long, Drebin's shop ruins gameplay in a lot of ways (you're never short on ammo), and the story leaves no room for interpretation. In some ways, getting what you want isn't a good thing.
Nowadays, I don't know if I'd call MGS4 my favorite game of all time anymore. On one hand, I remember my first play through with fondness, but on the other hand I can't ignore the flaws anymore. When I think of a favorite game, I want to think of it like a favorite book or movie, something I can do over and over again, and I can't do that with MGS4.
