1. FFVI - Why? because it simply has the best story and best music in the history of RPG's
2. FFVII - Great gameplay mechanics overall, and has the best system in any FF - The materia system
3. FFXII - I'm going to get so much flak for this one, but to me it was a huge step over the traditional FF formula, it was really challenging (only beaten by the Dark Aeons/Penance FFX difficulty and the Shinryu/Omega FFV difficulty) if you cared to do all the sidequests, and it was a blast if you wanted to grind for items and levels.
4. FFIX - The return to the classical formula, after two techno-gothic-punk themed FF's which so much classical masterpiece scores and a great character selection.
5. FF Dissidia - http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=86317&page=1 I think that this thread sums it up perfectly.
6. FFV - The FF with the most possible customization, even surpassing FFII in that aspect. Also the story was really superb, and the shinryu/omega battles were the hardest in any FF so far.
7. FFIV - The best character selection in any FF IMO, all of them are really well developed and have such a rich story, especially Rydia, Cecil and Edward, that spoony bard xD
8. FFX - It was a great FF, don't get me wrong, but after all the waiting for a 128 bits FF, I was really dissapointed at the first moments of the game. FFX only picks up really after you defeat Yunalesca, giving you enough freedom to explore the game world like a real FF should always let you do, not give you an on-rails RPG experience (my GF is here at my side almost killing me for putting FFX so low, she loves the game xD). It has a good story and two of the best challenges in all of the FF-verse, the monster arena and the Dark Aeons/Penance fights.
9. FFTactics - One of the best SRPG i've ever played, and one of the hardest as well, which only made it even better IMO.
10. FFVII CC - A good story based on the FFVII universe, explaining a lot of lose ends and a great focus on Zack's story. Genesis and Angeal were a bit glued together to the FFVII-verse, and the mission system was repetitive as hell. One of the best combat systems on any FF so far.
11. FF Mystic Quest - I love this game, even if it's so far down the list, due to the all the flaws and the sheer simplicity of the game, but it has an unique air in it's whole story, and i love using the weapons as tools to advance in the game.
12. FFVIII - Triple Triad is the best mini-game in the whole history of FF xD Also I love the Guardian Force-Junction system. It has one of the most convulted and unexplained histories in all of the FF games, since most of it was cut down to allow the game to be released in it's scheduled date.
13. FFX-2 - A spin-off that for all it's purposes worked well, even though it doesn't have any classical or unique moments to be mentioned.
14. FFII - One of the best customization options in all FF games, which was huge at the time the game was released. The story lacks a true sense of pace and the characters feel totally incomplete.
15. FFI - The classic, the big grandpa of them all, and also the most simple of them all. I've replayed this game over 10 times, in both the NES, PSX, GBA, PSP versions, due to it still being a great game, albeit simple, as i stated above.
16. FFIII - The FF that started the true job system (FF had one, but they were fixed jobs) which to me, is one of the pillars of all the FF-verse. Worst story in all FF games.
17. FFVII Dirge of Cerberus - Worst Final Fantasy game ever made. The battle mechanics really suck, the controls lag like hell, the difficulty is all over the place, the story makes no sense at all, the Tsviets are glued even worse than Genesis and Angeal were, and that final battle which should be epic, as every Omega battle should be, was really lackluster.
