I like the Lotus too, its V8 is second after Brabham's one for my driving style and tastes, but I find the car a little bit more difficult. Every now and then I try the BRM with results more laughable than usual, but its high revolving H16 engine is enjoyable anyway, alas the weight kills it...
Never tried the Cooper, the fact that even I can overtake them easily makes me think they really suck. 
IIRC the manual says they are the easiest to drive, so maybe I should give them a try as training.
Together with Myth I, Gothic I and Fallout 2 it's the best game I ever got as gift with a magazine.
