I appreciate that Obama doesn't believe that the government should act as a full-blown nanny but I don't like how he's demonizing gaming. Obviously if gaming is getting into the way of school and their health (lack of exercise), then yeah it would make sense for parents to cut them off. But if kids want to game on their free-time and it's not getting in the way of exercise, school, etc., why not?
Another thing I see is that gaming is blamed for hindering social skills in children. Haven't they thought that it's the other way around? That kids with low social skills (especially those with Asperger's or other autism-spectrum disorders as they tend to seem socially awkward to other children) gravitate more towards gaming because they feel uncomfortable in social situations and don't want to get bullied? (ok sure you can get bullied on XBL and PSN but it's not the same being slurred by an anon who doesn't know you compared to being bullied in school or on facebook, myspace, youtube, etc. talking trash about the person on a public area for the whole world to see). You can't just make the assumption that gaming is the root of all these issues.
