@Montana: I don't see any similarity whatsoever between this phenomenon and the janissaries. These are Westerners who freely adopt the most violent interpretation of Islam possible, not some unfortunate kids who were conscripted and converted at sword point.

Phenomenon? Okay. Well, the similarity being that they are of white, European descent but still fight under the flag of Islam? I mean, it's not that hard to find similarities.
