How does the Ninja have range when a spartan has like a freaking 10 foot spear?

A) A spartan can't utlize it in a 10 foot strike.

B)

 

Kusarigama.  The ball can do enough damage to dent a bronze helmet well outside of a spears range.

 

They actually have the whole thing here.  Though like I said, the Spartan wins, though i'd attribute it to "stupid" AI.
