The UK can get its energy from Southern Europe (btw the number 1 solar energy producer in the world is Germany, despite having a similar climate to the UK).
We can store solar energy on large sites via molten salt, as for home installations, we can split water using excess daytime energy and then recombine it of a night time (which releases energy) - which can all be done in a basement or attic, or something.
