I think there are two important questions which need to be answered in order to make this a reasonably plausable outcome:
What will Sony do to keep customers from buying Wii or XBox 360 systems until 2009/2010 when the PS3 becomes a more acceptable price (for most families)?
What will Sony do to prevent third party publishers from moving most of their development resources to the less expensive to develop for and more popular Wii?
Right now Sony is in a tough position because if they lose the customers they will lose the developers, or if they lose the developers they will lose the customers, and every month they lose ground on both fronts to their competition.
