In the long run, demographic changes are going to make japan far less significant. And all the japanese developers realise that. sqaure-enix, capcom, konami, all have been making speeches recently about tailoring their games for a more western audience.
But Japan's still a big market, and will remain significant for a long time. Just less significant.
