Tekken 3 (best selling version) is just under 7 million. Super Smash Brothers Melee (not best selling version) is just over 7 million. Brawl is past both of those and still climbing. If you want to try combining sales then Street Fighter will crush everything with the thousand and one games released over the years. In terms of sales there is just no way to call Tekken the largest. Not even close.

Yes, it is a fighting game franchise. You can call it a "brawler" but that is a sub genre at best. There was even an Evo tournament a couple years, and I believe it is always featured as a side game to play.
