Inherent fault makes no sense, I have a release 60 gb, it has run a lot, stayed on for hours and hours. It definitely not become that hot, not hot enough to desolder anything. Its not enclose and its in vertical position, just do that and youll have no problems. The following is taken from sony precaution in the first pages of the user manual. I would be willing to bet that nearly all the person having problems did not do that and thats why SOny dont want to pay:

Do not block any vents. To maintain good ventilation, follow the guidelines below:

- Place the system AT LEAST 10 CM (4 INCH) away from a wall surface
- Do not place on a carpet or rug
- Do not place in a narrow or cramped place
- Do not cover with cloth
- Do not allow dust to build up on the vents

Use and handling:

-Do not expose the system to high temperature, high humidity or direct sunlight.

Do that and youll have no problems, BBC should have educated people to read their user manual instead of bullshitting.
