Underwater shooter Bioshock 2 has a release date: February 9th, 2010.

The game, published by Take 2, takes place a decade after Bioshock, but features the same ramshackle, underwater city of Rapture. In the single-player campaign, players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, and search for a nere-do-well who is capturing little girls from the surface of the earth and bringing them deep under the sea.

Unlike the first game, Bioshock 2 features multiplayer, with gamers assuming the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions. The multiplayer takes place during the fall of Rapture, so it'll be interesting to check out the design contrasts between single and multi-player.

That release date is a little weird, eh? Seriously, February 9th?  I gotta wonder if it's a case of Bioshock 2 not being finished by the holiday season, or a case of Take 2 releasing the game a little late in the hope of capitalizing on a dearth of games coming out around that time... and kids' Christmas money and new game consoles!

In Hollywood, a sure sign of a terrible movie is a February or March release date. Obviously the same logic doesn't apply to gaming, but it got me thinking: In your mind, is there a time of year when bad games tend to come out? If so, when is it?
