The 53-47 split is based upon the estimates of Jim Bottoms, managing director of corporate development for Futuresource Consulting.
Futuresource also puts American 3D-enabled TV household penetration at 45% by 2014, compared to just 12% estimated in 2010.
The 53-47 split has several interpretations.
1. In bad economic times, those with money can still afford things.
2. People are buying BR when they upgrade to HD-TV.
3. People are buying BR when they need to replace their DVD player.
4. The DVD market is saturated.
5. PS3 sales help BR-DVD sales.
The install base will continue to drive software development for years to come, however. Because it is probably a lot closer to 80-20 than 50-50.

I am Mario.I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble. Wii Friend Code: 1624 6601 1126 1492 NNID: Mike_INTV |
