I'm from Canada too, but evolution or anything relating to it was never taught in any class i ever had.  The subject was never even been brought up in any class or grade.

I had it tough to me in school despite living in catholic dominant Poland , even our priest on religion lessons have been talking that evolution doesn't deny creation theory as the 7 day of world creation is just a allegory.

Actually it's not an allegory. The creation story is about how the elohim(spirits/Gods) repaired the earth and cleared the atmosphere after all plant and animal life had been destroyed in the fall of Lucifer.
